Within GPSTC’s Critical Skills Training Section, four distinct training units develop curricula to provide officers with an exceptional variety of specialized and advanced training courses that cover vital aspects of law enforcement.
- Firearms Training
- Driver Training
- Use of Force & Defensive Tactics Training
- Resiliency & Wellness Training
Firearms Training
The Firearms Training unit develops and delivers training courses related to all aspects of firearms, tactical skills, school tactics, and terrorism. The Firearms Training unit consists of two sub-units that include: Marksmanship and Tactical Operations.
Driver Training
The Driver Training unit strives to provide the most realistic driver training possible to veteran officers not only from across the state, but across the nation. Our instructors are equipped with a broad spectrum of training and experience.
Use of Force and Defensive Tactics Training
The Use of Force and Defensive Tactics Training unit has a goal of creating officers who are confident in their knowledge of the law and equally as confident in their skill. During a moment requiring a response to resistance, officers must know that they are making the right decision in accordance with case law and state law, while also possessing the proper skill set to control suspects using objectively reasonable force.
Resiliency & Wellness Training
The Resiliency and Wellness Training unit offers training tailored specifically for law enforcement, the fire/EMS service, corrections, and communications officers in Georgia’s public safety agencies. It aims to provide practical tools and techniques dealing with physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, familial, and other stressors that so often cause peace officers’ problems to spill over into actions that can impact their families, physical and mental health, careers, finances, and even their very lives. Offering training that equips our first responders and agencies with the tools and support needed to thrive in the face of challenges that often present themselves in these professions is what is important to us.
