As mandated by Georgia law, all jail officers must complete the 80-hour training program in order to earn certification through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST).

Step 1: Employment

Students must be employed with a public safety agency to attend the Basic Jail Officer Training course and should have their training officer enroll them in the program after completing the POST application.

Step 2: POST Application

Students who wish to enroll in the Basic Jail Officer Program must complete a POST application, which can be done online.

Step 3: Registration

Registration is required for those attending the course and can be done online.

Step 4: POSTFORM-2 (P2) Number

A POSTFORM-2 (P2) number must be issued and documented on the student’s POST record at least 10 business days prior to being accepted to or attending the course.
