Basic Firefighter Training Program at the Georgia Fire AcademyThe Basic Firefighter Training program, offered through the Georgia Fire Academy at GPSTC, is the top firefighter training program in the state of Georgia and is designed for applicants who are interested in becoming career firefighters and earning state certification as a firefighter. The eight week program consists of 345 hours of rigorous training that includes classroom-based lecture and practical skills building sessions As mandated by the Georgia Fire Standards and Training Council, all career firefighters in Georgia must complete this basic training in order to earn state certification.

Students who wish to enroll in either the Basic Firefighter Training program for certification or the Basic Volunteer Firefighter with Live Fire program for registration and who are currently employed by a fire department should contact their supervisor or training officer for details. Civilians who wish to attend a Basic Firefighter Training program to become a firefighter may do so as pre-service candidates and should carefully read the GPSTC web page on how to become a firefighter in Georgia.
