The Georgia Public Safety Training Center is open for business and fully operational; providing essential public safety training during the pandemic. We are continuously monitoring and adjusting our operational procedures in light of changing recommendations of the CDC, and at the direction of the Governor’s Office, Georgia POST Council, and the Department of Public Health.

GPSTC remains concerned about the health and safety of our staff, our customers, and our students and we are taking all appropriate precautions to ensure we are able to provide critical, essential training to public safety personnel.

ANYONE EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19, A TEMPERATURE OVER 100.4°F, OR WHO  AND HAS KNOWINGLY HAD CLOSE CONTACT WITH SOMEONE WHO IS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 IN THE LAST 5 DAYS SHOULD NOT COME TO ANY GPSTC CAMPUS.

As part of our efforts to reduce the risk of spreading any illness, we are taking the following precautions:

  • Hand sanitizers are available throughout the Training Center, but we encourage students to bring their own sanitizer so that it is immediately available to them throughout the day.
  • We ask that everyone practice appropriate sneezing and coughing etiquette.
  • Lodging will be offered only to students that reside more than 60 miles from the Training Center, and who are attending a course for multiple days.
  • Eligible students will be provided free DOUBLE occupancy lodging but may purchase private lodging at our regular rates; subject to the availability of private barracks, (students attending Basic Courses are not eligible for private lodging).
  • Barracks are being deep cleaned and disinfected prior to being assigned.
  • If the barrack is occupied for multiple weeks, it will be deep cleaned and sanitized once per week, according to DPH recommendations.
  • We are cleaning and disinfecting classrooms daily.
  • Classroom doors will remain open to prevent the need to touch doorknobs, and all restrooms and other common areas are cleaned and sanitized multiple times per day depending on traffic and touch points.
  • Our food service workers will wear face masks, gloves, and other appropriate PPE and continue to use proper sanitization methods to comply with expanded standards for the Food Service Industry.
  • Staff and students are encouraged but not required to wear a mask on campus. However, masks are required for persons that are exposed to someone on campus who tests COVID positive.

Please note that GPSTC is working diligently to continue delivering mandated and critical training during these difficult times. As such, the COVID protocols are modified to the extent necessary, based on the type of training class involved, to meet mandatory and critical training needs. Agencies are encouraged to discuss concerns and agency requirements with students registered for upcoming courses with regards to agency expectations for participation in training, which may be dependent on the COVID protocols in effect for each training course, depending on course type.

The health and safety of our staff, students, and visitors are a top priority for GPSTC. As the public health crisis remains a fluid and evolving situation, we ask for your patience and understanding should the policies and procedures outlined here change with little notice. We will do our best to communicate openly and clearly whenever new information is available, or our procedures change.

Thank you for your understanding during this trying time. Anyone scheduled to attend upcoming training may contact the course coordinator should you have any questions or need additional information.

Please note that close contact is defined through proximity and duration of exposure with the following criteria. Someone who was less than 6 feet away from infected person (laboratory-confirmed or a clinical diagnosis) for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period (for example, three individual 5-minute exposures for a total of 15 minutes). An infected person can spread SARS-CoV-2 starting from 2 days before they have any symptoms (or, for asymptomatic people, 2 days before the positive specimen collection date), until they meet the criteria for ending isolation.
