The courses entitled “Principles of Building Construction: Combustible” and “Principles of Building Construction: Non-Combustible” are no longer being offered through the Georgia Fire Academy and has been replaced by the new interactive course “Principles of Building Construction (Q0751)” available on NFA Online Distance Learning for Fire and Emergency Services at https://www.usfa.fema.gov.

This interactive course replaces two-day classroom-based courses the NFA has offered for more than 20 years. Upon completion of the course, the students will be able to describe the benefits of cross-disciplinary cooperation among fire protection and design professionals; explain the elements of building construction as they apply to construction codes; describe the elements of building construction as they apply to firefighter safety; anticipate fire behavior based on structural elements of, and thermal effects on, each of several types of construction; and explain how design elements and emerging building methods and materials affect fire behavior and structural performance.

If local fire departments wish to continue to offer this course at their level, the Georgia Fire Academy will hand off the curriculum to said department with the understanding that only “State Credit” will be provided for these courses. Georgia Fire Academy will maintain curriculum for this endeavor.
