The division’s Instructor Training program allows public safety officials to become certified to train other public safety personnel in their local jurisdictions. The courses provided through the Instructor Training programs are designed for public safety personnel who are responsible for instruction in performance-oriented training or who are responsible for developing lesson plans. In addition to general instructor training, GPSTC also provides specialized training through the respective Police and Fire Academies in the areas of: DUI and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Firefighter, Defensive Tactics, DRE, Firearms, Health and Wellness, LIDAR/RADAR and more. As of July 1, 2014, Instructional Services Division will conduct the Basic Communications Officer Training program.
As a final priority, the Instructional Services Division provides research and development for basic, advanced and specialized training courses in both online and classroom-based training formats. Maintenance and approval of all Master Course files are handled through Instructional Services and the division serves as liaison with the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council and with the Georgia Fire Standards and Training Council for course approvals.
