The Georgia Police Academy, which was founded in 1962 and consolidated with the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in 1991, provides advanced and specialized training for Georgia’s certified law enforcement officers in dozens of instructional areas including: criminal investigations, drug enforcement and drug recognition, firearms, forensics, legal, organizational development, traffic safety, physical fitness, counter-terrorism, and instructor training. Coroners’ mandatory basic and in-service training are also hosted by the Georgia Police Academy.

The staff at the Georgia Police Academy (GPA) is dedicated to developing the abilities of Georgia’s law enforcement officers to deliver safe, effective and efficient services to the communities they serve. GPA offers a comprehensive array of training courses that address the professional development needs of Georgia law enforcement organizations from entry-level training through supervisor training.

The GPA strives to maintain state-of-the-art training for the Georgia law enforcement community and continuously researches the most effective training methods to ensure that we deliver the highest quality training to our customers.  The Academy offers an experiential approach to learning that provides our students with a balanced classroom environment of lectures, combined with the use of realistic scenarios, to better prepare officers for real world applications.
