The Driver Training Program conducts the 24-hour Basic Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) course that is required by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council for entry-level officers from all regional and contract academies. This course is designed as a basic familiarization for emergency response driving. Students must successfully complete a skid recovery, an ABS braking exercise, a timed precision course, and a written examination in order to graduate. Students are also instructed in off-road recovery and skills driving technique.
In addition to basic mandate students, the Driver Training Unit also conducts advanced courses for veteran officers. Courses offered, or are under development include: Law Enforcement Emergency Vehicle Operators Course Levels 1 & 2, Dynamics of Vehicle Pursuit, Driver Instructor Training, Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT), Police Motor Officer Techniques Level I & 2 and Night Driving Techniques.
