The Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) is currently serving as a Logistical Staging Area for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA).  The GPSTC was activated as a FEMA/GEMA Logistical Staging Area (LSA) on Tuesday October 9, 2018, a day before Hurricane Michael made landfall.  As Governor Deal initially declared 92 of Georgia’s counties a State of Emergency, the Training Center began its transition into a LSA.  The Training Center is serving as a reception, staging, and onward movement and integration site to support logistics management and resource mobilization for disaster areas in South Georgia at this time.

The mission here at the GPSTC includes acceptance and inventory of supplies of life sustaining commodities in support of the disaster relief emergency.  Members of the Georgia National Guard have arrived on campus to retrieve these resources in order to transport them to the areas where they are most needed.  Director Chris Wigginton stated, “I am pleased with the efforts of the GPSTC Staff in the success of the operation.  I believe this is a direct reflection of the commitment of our personnel to the citizens of the State of Georgia”.
