Biography

Ron Zara started his law enforcement career in 1996 with Lee Arrendale State Prison as a Corrections Officer. He served in several divisions, to include the Mental Health unit and the High Risk Inmates unit. He was promoted to the rank of Corrections Officer 2.

In 1997, Ron joined the Walton County Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Officer. After graduating from the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course in 1998, he served in Court Services, Uniform Patrol, Georgia Gang Investigations, Basic School Resource Officer, Youth Investigations (SRO) and was certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician. He also completed and acquired his Criminal Investigator POST certification.

In 2005, Ron assisted in the design of the City of Social Circle’s Police Department. His was responsible for writing departmental policy and procedures, uniform design, establishing a training program, and managing the logistics of a crossed trained department where the peace officers became certified Firefighters. During that time, Ron acquired his General Instructor certification, Firearms Instructor certification, Instructor certification for Georgia Teens Ride with Pride, and the Instructor certification for the National Incident Management System (NIMS). Additionally, he received additional specialized training to include:
– Advanced Under Cover Techniques and Survival in Narcotics (Daytona Beach, FL)
– Internal Affairs from (Birmingham, AL)
– ProBoard Certified Firefighter
– Chief Executive Officer on Safe Schools Forum and Missing and Exploited Children (National Center Missing and Exploited Children)

Zara was promoted to Captain of the Social Circle Police Department and took on the additional responsibilities of supervising the Criminal Investigations Division, Narcotics Division and the SRO program. In 2008 he worked with a Tri-City Drug Team with the Cities of Monroe and Loganville Georgia. From 2009 to 2010, he was the Acting Chief of the City of Social Circle Department of Public Safety.

During his career, Ron has acquired over 2,200 hours of POST Law Enforcement training.

Ron Zara left law enforcement in 2011 to create a privately owned firearms training company in the Atlanta, Georgia area. In that role, Ron taught firearm safety, use and law to qualified civilians and law enforcement.

In January of 2015, Ron accepted a position with the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (Athens Regional Academy) as an instructor and continued his career in Law Enforcement.
