GPSTC will be offering the Public Safety Fitness Specialist training course starting October 28 through November 6. This is a comprehensive course designed for instructors responsible for coordinating, planning, and implementing health and wellness programs at their agencies.

 

Subjects include exercise physiology, anatomy and kinesiology, cardiovascular and resistance training, nutrition, supplementation and steroids, and other various health related topics. Students will also be required to perform a fitness assessment on a public safety employee and interpret the results. To successfully complete this course, the student must earn a passing score on the written examination and must design an exercise prescription for a public safety employee.

 

Applicants must be employed by a local, state, or federal government agency and must possess General Instructor certification through POST or possess NPQ II Instructor certification through GFSTC. Students must successfully pass a fitness test for admission to the course to include Push-Ups, Sit-Ups, 1 rep maximum Bench Press, 1.5 Mile Run or 300 Meter Sprint, and Vertical Jump.
