Police Cyclist will be offered by Georgia Police Academy, December 5 through December 9. Taught by IPMBA certified instructors, this course provides the student with a basic understanding and skill level to handle a police mountain bicycle during law enforcement situations. The student will be provided with the knowledge of how to effectively utilize the police mountain bike in various riding conditions. Topics to be covered during this course are bicycle maintenance, basic fitness and nutrition, bicycle safety, patrol procedures, and police bicycle tactics.

Students are responsible for bringing their duty issued police mountain bicycle (with pedal retention devices, water bottle cage, headlights, rear flashing taillight, rear-mount kick stand), bicycle repair kit, bicycle helmet, cycling gloves, personal body armor, bicycle uniform (shirt, shorts/pants, shoes), rain gear, and duty gear (to include, but not limited to: firearm, magazine, baton, belt keepers, handcuffs).

 

Prerequisite: Must be employed by a local, state or federal law enforcement agency and must be assigned to a police bicycle unit.
