The Georgia Public Safety Training Center is proud to announce the launching of four new online Governor’s Initiative courses on January 1, 2018:
- Autism and De-escalation (2 hours P.O.S.T. De-escalation credit)
- Building Positive Community Relations (1 hour P.O.S.T. credit)
- Mental and Emotional Wellness (2 hours P.O.S.T. credit)
- Serving Georgia’s Diverse Communities (2 hours P.O.S.T. credit)
Under the Governor’s Initiative training requirements, P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement officers are required to take courses covering the Use of Force, De-escalation, and two credit hours of Community Policing. The 2017 Use of Force and De-escalation Options for Gaining Compliance is still available.
However, in 2018, Use of Force and De-escalation Options for Gaining Compliance will be offered as stand-alone courses of 3 hours and 2 hours respectively.
To fulfill the De-escalation requirement, officers will be allowed to take the stand-alone De-escalation Options for Gaining Compliance course or the new Autism and De-escalation course.
Please remember the following courses satisfy the Community Policing electives as well:
These courses are inclusive of, not in addition to, the 20-hour continuing education required by O.C.G.A. 35-8-21.
