General Information

Directions:
From I-16, take EXIT 165 on the toward SAVANNAH, Merge onto DEAN FOREST using EXIT 160. Turn LEFT onto SUNSHINE AVE. Academyis on the left.

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT

1. Three (3) Academy uniform polos
2. Three (3) khaki tactical trousers
3. One (1) pair black shineable shoes/boots
4. One (1) uniform underbelt
5. One (1) duty belt with holster, magazines pouches, handcuff case, belt keepers, and other agency pouches and cases as per agency S.O.P.
6. One (1) Academy ball cap
7. Two (2) Academy sweatshirts (cool weather)
8. Two (2) Academy sweatpants (cool weather)
9. Two (2) Academy shorts (warm weather)
10. Two (3) Academy DT gray t-shirts (warm weather)
11. One (1) pair running shoes

* Black Academy uniform t-shirts are available and are to be worn at the discretion of the Academy Manager.

Tuition:
There is no fee for tuition for Georgia certified officers who are actively employed with a Georgia agency.

Cancellation Police:
Please cancel any reservations for classes that you will be unable to attend. Most classes fill and have a waiting list of officers wanting to attend. Your cooperation is appreciated.

BJOT
Basic Jail Officer Training
This 80-hour course is mandatory for Georgia Jailer Certification. It covers such chemical weapons. The jail officer is subjected to many high liability duties and training is essential. Please call Harlan Proveaux at the Training Center (912.927.5226) for more information and to register. Registrations will be confirmed on a first come, first served basis by P-2.

Police Academy

Pre-Service Program
The Regional Police Academy - Savannah provides required certification training for law enforcement officers for a nineteen county region. The Pre-Service Program is available for those individuals who desire training before seeking employment in law enforcement. Successful completion of the training enables individuals to become candidates for P.O.S.T. certification.

Currently, the Basic Law Enforcement course is ten and a half weeks. The class meets eight hours per day, five days per week for a total of 408 hours. The cost for pre-service applicants is $3093, however, most applicants receive the HOPE Scholarship. (Pre-Service Applicants will be given HOPE application at the time of the Entrance Exam.)

Tuition and Financial Aid
The Veterans Administration (G. I. Bill) reimburses eligible students, and the HOPE Scholarship pays tuition for eligible Georgia residents. (Pre-Service Applicants will be given HOPE application at the time of the Entrance Exam.)
