Fire Officer Series

The Georgia Fire Academy Fire Officer Series is designed to provide the educational foundation for today's fire and emergency services personnel seeking promotion or for the Fire Officer seeking to enhance Officer knowledge and skills.

The Fire Officer Series offered by the Georgia Fire Academy meets or exceeds NFPA 1021 requirements for ProBoard Certification.

Classes may be taken in any sequence that best meets the needs of the local department.

Fire Officer I & II
(Company Officer)

Fire Officer I & II series of courses are designed to meet the needs of the Company Officer with emphasis on crew resource management, budgets, health and safety, communication, planning, and building construction. The courses meet NFPA 1021 and provide the tools necessary to obtain certification through NPQS (ProBoard).

Fire Officer I
Departments or students choosing to use the Georgia Fire Academy to meet their Officer training requirements must complete the following courses prior to testing with GFSTC:

  • Acting Officer In Charge for the Fire Service (AOIC) (32 hr)
  • Transitional Interpersonal Leadership Training (TILT) (42 hr)
  • Fire Department Supervision (36 hr)

Classes may be attended in any order.

GPSTC Prerequisite: A letter of recommendation from the Department Chief or department designee.

Fire Officer II
Departments or students choosing to use the Georgia Fire Academy to meet their Officer training requirements must complete the following course prior to testing with GFSTC:

  • Fire Department Management (80 hr)

GPSTC Prerequisite: A letter of recommendation from the Department Chief or department designee.

Fire Officer III & IV
(Command Staff)

Fire Officer III & IV series of courses emphasis is on management of fire protection services to include community relations, crew resource management, budgets, safety programs, communication requirements and risk management for the Chief Officer. Courses consist of interactive group exercises and projects to reinforce classroom lectures. The courses meet NFPA 1021 and provide the tools necessary to obtain certification through NPQS (ProBoard).

Fire Officer III
Departments or students choosing to use the Georgia Fire Academy to meet their Officer training requirements must complete the following course prior to testing with GFSTC:

  • Fire Department Administrator (64 hr)

GPSTC Prerequisite: A letter of recommendation from the Department Chief or department designee.

* Students will be required to complete and submit a strategic planning project as part of their class grade.

Fire Officer IV
Departments or students choosing to use the Georgia Fire Academy to meet their Officer training requirements must complete the following course prior to testing with GFSTC:

  • Fire Department Executive (40 hr)

GPSTC Prerequisite: A letter of recommendation from the Department Chief or department designee.

* Students will be required to complete and submit a strategic planning project as part of their class grade.

 

ProBoard Certification Notes:

The Georgia Fire Academy offers classes that meet and exceed NFPA 1021 requirements for ProBoard certification. Classes may be taken in any sequence that best meets the needs of the local departments.

However, for those wishing to pursue ProBoard certification, testing must follow ProBoard prescribed order with the required prerequisite training in place.

Prerequisite For:

Fire Officer I: National Professional Qualifications Firefighter II and National Professional Qualifications Fire Instructor I.

Fire Officer II: Professional Qualifications Fire Officer I and its prerequisites.

Fire Officer III: National Professional Qualifications Fire Officer II and its prerequisites. National Professional Qualifications Fire Instructor II.

Fire Officer IV: National Professional Qualifications Fire Officer III and its prerequisites.
