Who Should Attend: STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND THE ARSON INVESTIGATION TWO COURSE IF THEY FAIL TO MEET THE FOLLOWING PREREQUISITES:
Prerequisite:
1. Certifications: STUDENTS MUST HAVE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CERTIFICATIONS:
* Georgia firefighter who has completed Module 1 of the State of Georgia Basic Firefighter Training Course or who has a N.P.Q. 1 Firefighter Certification
* Peace Officer Certification
2. Letter of recommendation from Agency Head or Supervisor stating the following:
- Applicant has completed the Arson Investigation Level 1 Course (attach certificate)
- Applicant has at least six months experience investigating ten (10) fires under the supervision of a certified arson investigator; fire (5) fires must be structure fires
- Attached copy of applicant's NCIC/GCIC criminal history dated within the last 12 months verifying they do not have a criminal record
3. Applicant must pass a pre-test with at least a 70% accuracy given on the first day of class covering the enabling objectives taught during the Arson Investigation One course

This course instructs students on the fundamental aspects of Fire/Arson investigation. Topics include interview/interrogation, electrical fire causes, gas fire causes, and courtroom demeanor. Students will demonstrate their knowledge by participating in a number of practical exercises. Students will spend time preparing written narratives documenting their investigative acts. Students should be prepared to work a fire scene on the first day of class.
Special Notes: Students must bring with them to class: Note taking material, work boots, work gloves, camera, audio recorder, tape measure, sketch template and a flashlight. This course is required for State and National Cerfications.
While not required, we encourage students to bring a laptop computer with a fully charged battery to class. Students are also encouraged to purchase Kirk's Fire Investigation and NFPA 921.
