Prerequisite: Certified Basic Firefighter, NPQ I or equivalent, Completion of Smoke Diver Qualification Test, and support from department for training.

The purpose or goal(s) of the course is to train firefighters to an elite level of performance and safety by teaching methods of self-survival, firefighter rescue and personal limitations. This training confirms the performance of knowledge, skills and tasks expected of high performance firefighters related to daily job duties. Physical and mentally demanding fire ground scenarios involving search and rescue of firefighters, civilians, firefighter self-rescue techniques requiring strict adherence to directives, cognitive and applications, situational awareness, and the ability to operate within a command structure. All participants are required to stay on campus at GPSTC (no exceptions) for safety, health, and welfare monitoring.

Special Notes: Due to the extreme physical and mental demands of this course, students are expected to be in superior to excellent physical condition. Do not sign up for this course, unless you have been on an arduous exercise regimen for at least 12 weeks, which included a disciplined nutrition and fluid intake program.
